How Can I Help?
An often asked question is "How can I help?"   Here's a list of various ways you can help. Maybe some of them will click with you as a way you can help the orphans and street children of Latin America.
Make a Donation:
Help Spread the Word:
  • Tell friends about the Sunflower, our website, expeditions, give a brochure, invite them to watch the DVD.
  • Ask friends if they’d like to receive our newsletter (sign them up on the website).
  • Arrange a “fireside” or discussion group for your friends, church group or school class.
  • For a Press Kit with a DVD, brochure and brief summary of Southern Cross and it's founder, contact Laura@sxhu.org.
Go on a "Humanitarian Expedition":
  • You’ll be able to help with construction and other projects at our “Sunflower” orphanage, get to know the children, see Peru’s amazing sights and have a life changing experience - CLICK HERE for information.
Prepare and Donate Humanitarian Kits:
  • CLICK HERE to get a list of the kits that we need
  • Expeditions to South America are designed to build a better global community. Newborn training takes place for women throughout the Andean region, School Kits are given to children in various villages we visit in conjunction with newborn training and dental work, and hygiene kits and training are needed throughout Peru. Your help in providing these kits is appreciated; we ask our expedition participants to take them to Peru in their checked luggage because shipping is not only expensive, it is not reliable.
  • For environmental and practical reasons, please do not use trial size items in any kits. Thank you.

  • It’s powered by Yahoo and pays us a penny each time we use it, send a message to all your friends and ask them to “goodsearch”. Enter “Southern Cross Humanitarian” as the charity.  There’s no cost, but we need LOTS of people using Goodsearch to add up.
Hold a Fundraiser:
  • Dinners, cabarets, auctions, Penny Drives, car washes, garage sales, have your school class do a reading program to buy an alpaca for our dairy and more.

Obtain a Grant from a Charitable Foundation:
  • If you know of anyone who has a charitable foundation, a company which may be able to help or provide matching grants, please see if they would be willing to help the orphans in Peru.  Please contact Laura Mabbot.
Southern Cross Gifts & Thank You's:
  • Southern Cross Humanitarian gift certificates are life long presents helping children for years to come. Let us know when you are making a donation to Southern Cross on someone's behalf, and we'll be glad to send a corresponding certificate.
  • When your friends donate or help in any way, remember to send a note saying thank you! OR, we can help you out by having you send a SXHU thank you certificate.

What Your Donations Can Buy :  
  • $20 Donation:   Hires a skilled electrician and plumber for the day
  • $60 Donation:   Provides a child with food, hygiene, medical and educational supplies for a month
  • $200 Donation:  Makes 1000 adobe bricks for construction of shelters
  • $600 Donation:  Outfits an entire child’s dorm room with 2 bunkbeds, a wardrobe, a desk, sheets & blankets, etc…
  • $1000 Donation:  Sponsors two cows and seed for the dairy & farm
  • $2500 Donation:  Establishes a classroom with curriculum materials, desks, chairs, tables, white boards, teacher’s desk supplies, enrichment activities, etc...
  • $10,000 Donation:  Creates a Drop-in Center, feeding and providing refuge for hundreds of children at a time
  • $10,000 Donation:  Constructs dorms, buys land, provides homes for thousands of children over a lifetime
